Announced in April 2024 as Rajinikanth’s 171st film (tentatively called Thalaivar 171), later officially titled Coolie.

The title teaser shows Rajinikanth in a massy avatar, set in a gold-smuggling underworld theme.

Lokesh Kanagaraj has hinted that the film is not part of the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe), but it will be a standalone stylish action entertainer.

Shooting started in mid-2024 and it is expected to release in 2025.
